Like most things in life, Yoga definitions cover the reality of a continuous spectrum of practises, often curving and folding into itself.
I teach 'Yang' practises like Vinyasa Flow Yoga and Power Yoga (which is a flow class in which I push the energy levels higher) because I absolutely love them. But nothing is absolute `Yin or Yang, and we are seeking balance.
My Flow classes have elements of Yin and restorative classes. I find it essential not to create a state of high alert as continuos high level of cortisol in the system can cause long term damage
When we use a lot of energy we can balance the Yang out with presence, rhythmical breath, mindfulness of our own needs, and providing modification to adapt the practise.

Yin Yoga - Restorative - Senior & Chair Yoga
Most forms of yoga today are active practises, working on the muscular tissues of our body, the 'yang' tissues. Yin Yoga allows us to work on the deeper 'Yin' tissues which are our ligaments, joints, deep fascial networks.
Yin Yoga is ideal for athletes, runners, climbers etc, as it improves flexibility and brings the mind in a quiet still place. It makes us regain space and stability in the joints, helping us to avoid injuries.
Meditation - Breathing practises - Healing
There are times when we are simply burnt out, whether because of a stressful situation or because of a mental or physical illness that we are or have just been through.
These are times to stop and reclaim life and time for ourself. Recovery needs rest both physical and mental but resting our mind and recovering our body have got little to do with lying down and watching telly...

There is no denying it, getting fit feels good. It is also true that working on the body, leaving the mind out of the matter can make you feel quite bored and disconnected
Yoga is there to unite. When body and mind work together, we begin to feel more at ease with ourselves. We can start to relax and be more accepting of ourselves, gain more understanding of who and where we are in our lives and enjoy watching the body-mind transformation that will begin.

During pregnancy showers of hormones, achy joints and distracted minds, can sometimes make it quite difficult to keep on living as we used to. The signals are clear, we ought to realize we owe ourselves and our babies a bit more time out and tender loving care.
Practising Yoga throughout your pregnancy will empower and energise you. It will allow you to tune into the changes that are going on in your body, slow the pace and enjoy the whole experience.
